Hamilton For The Weekend

First off I would like to tell you about a friend of mine, Adam Henningsen, who runs a blog at (link to blog). Recently he was running a contest to create some buzz for his blog and it got my attention. His idea was to give USD$5.00 to a person that commented on his blog every hour for eight hours, in the end giving away USD$40.00. Pretty generous guy if you ask me. The idea was simple but in the end it did not work out nearly as well as he would have hoped. With these types of campaigns it is a hit and miss whether the idea will ignite across the net or just burn out. There are many alternatives to getting traffic to your site especially if you’re willing to dish out some cash. A few examples include using Adwords, buying paid advertisements on individual sites that share a similar topic to yours, and paying a fixed amount for a certain amount of traffic. Since Adam runs a blog he should not rely on paid advertising as you want to target and bring in readers that will continue to come back and also contribute to your community in the form of comments. Getting 10,000 random visitors is not nearly fulfilling as having 10 people comment on one of your posts.

I know firsthand how hard it is to promote your blog and establish long term readers. I’ve been blogging for a couple of years now but since I began I have probably gone through 10-15 different site designs and 4-5 different hosts in that time. This is not a very good practice and has lost me many valuable readers over the years (change of domains, many rapid design changes, lack of posts). Jeffreymunro.com looks like it will remain my domain for the rest of my life, well unless someone offers me $1,000,000 for it ;) and buyers? I was going to include some tips in this post but there is an immense amount of information about blogging on this site so it didn’t seem necessary.

I am currently on my way to the Hammer to visit Hannah for a couple of days. It’s awesome having a place that is fairly close (2 hour trip) where I can go for a couple of days to get away from the wonderfulness that is res. I may be repeating myself but I’m planning on living in res next year as well but no roommate yet. Waiting to hear from Brett and where he has decided to go. Would be mint to have a good bud as a roommate as opposed to someone I can’t really relate to.

My accounting midterm went well last now although accounting does not seem like something I would want to do for the rest of my life. I would rather be doing something I enjoy doing for a fraction of the salary than do accounting all day. That’s the second career choice I’ve knocked off the list, economist and accounting, haha. Many will agree with me in saying that I don’t like being told what to do and when I know someone is wrong I’ll let them know. Now some many consider this a strength and some a weakness. I consider this one of my strengths and believe that it will help me in the direction I choose to go, entrepreneur. Many people also ask me what type of business I would like to run and don’t understand how I can be an entrepreneur without a business plan or model. Let me answer this question now…. My future business probably does not yet exist and the industry or market has probably not even been born yet but I know that it is currently manifesting and that whenever the opportunity arises I will be more than ready to seize it. Not a long answer but gets the point across.

That’s about it for now but just wanted to laugh at the two girls across from me who are getting nailed with $120 fines for not having Go Train tickets. BAHAHAHAHAHA noobs.
