Edmonton, Alberta

So I have now been living in Edmonton, Alberta for about 2 weeks now so here are some thoughts. The weather is starting to get a little cooler here now so I am going to have to get some money together and do some shopping if I want any hope of staying warm this winter. Apparently they have pretty cold winters here.

We moved into our apartment on our second day after spending the night in the airport. We only ended up getting a one bedroom apartment but considering we didn’t have all that much stuff to put in it its alright for now. We hope to upgrade to a two bedroom high rise once we get a little more established.

Andrew and I both started working only a couple of days after our arrival and the hours have been fairly long (10-13 hours per day) but the workload should slowly become less and less once we are able to catch up with the work that wasn’t complete the previous two weeks (workers quit).

I have been posting photos to flickr and you can find all the ones from Edmonton in this set.

Also, check out this song by Bubba Sparxxx called Comin Round (mp3)

Arrival in Edmonton

Collard and I left Ontario at 7:40pm last night and have made our arrival here at Edmonton International at 11:10pm, WE HAVE ARRIVE!!!!

I must say I am pretty pumped now that I am here and the ‘getting there’ aspect of the whole adventure is now over. The flight went by fairly quick as I was able to get about an hour and a half of sleep about half way through the flight. I’m a pretty big fan of WestJet now (this was my first time flying with them) because of the excellent service that we received and the fact that they have televisions for every single seat (cable tv, pay-per-view etc…). We are stuck chilling out in the airport for the night as we are only getting a look at our apartment in the morning. It’s not to bad though since I was able to snag an free open-wireless spot here in the terminal (thanks Bell).

Now that we have arrived we can start planning out what our plan of attack will be. Tomorrow we are checking out the apartment and hopefully doing a little shopping (food, misc. apartment items). I have been in contact with a nice guy from Edmonton through craigslist who will most likely be hooking us up with two Ikea desks for $75/each, a pretty big steal if you ask me.

I have posted a couple of photos to my flickr account so check those out if thats what interests you. Thats about it for now though. I have no idea when I will be able to get back online after we leave the airport but hopefully it won’t be more than a couple of days.

The Sixty One dot com

A new music service launched the other day (2 days ago?) and from my first couple of experiences with it I don’t have anything but good things to say about it. I’ve already discovered a load of new indie style music. The site is similar to digg in the way you promote stories to the homepage except they have added a point system where you are awarded points based on certain actions you take on the site (voting for songs, listening to the rack). Whenever you vote or ‘bump’ a song you are charged a certain amount of those points (5). There are different levels you can reach and other features to keep the site interactive. By far the greatest feature of the site is the ability to browse anywhere on the site but still keep the music playing as you move from page to page, truly unique!

Heres a couple of the songs I’ve discovered so far:
Iron & Wine - Boy With A Coin
Gorillaz - Kids With Guns
Mogwai - Gouge Away
The Acorn - Dents

Check out TheSixtyOne now and add me as a friend.

Last Weekend

I posted the photos from the weekend up on flickr so check those out in the November 2007 set.

Bryce came to Oshawa on Friday night in the last stop of his little trip across Eastern and Southern Ontario. From what I can remember he went to Kingston, St-Catherines, London, Toronto and Oshawa. Pretty good tour I would say.

I’ve come up with a new place for you to get the majority of the pictures that I have stowed away on my computer. They are all available via my flickr account but I didn’t feel like this was not the best way to share my photos with everyone. Flickr is very flexible when it comes to manipulating and embedding photos you have uploaded and by using this flexibility I will be able to have access to all my photos to matter which application I use for them. The site is available via Jeffreymunro.com/photos so very easy to remember if you are looking for a picture I may have taken.

The gallery currently features 13 albums with over 2000 photos. The galleries include:

Germany and Sweden
England and Scotland

September 2007
August 2007
July 2007

The past three days have been the most fun I’ve had in a LONG time. Sick 2 nights in Toronto (Piccadilly Circus and Republik <- not a white club haha) and another kick ass night in res with the bois!

Purchased myself an iPod Touch (8gb) on my first visit to the Apple Store! Oh if I only had $10,000. I got to experience COMPLETE silence whenever I slapped on a pair of $500 Bose headphones, nothing really compares. I’m going to try and organize as many photos as I can but for now these are some of the ones I pulled off Facebook.

Last night has to be added to the list of hilarious nights. 22 Phone books, 24 beers and a roommate that thinks he is dropping out. Haha. Oh the possibilities.

facebook.gifI put together a little album with some of the photos that stood out or that I found important. I uploaded them on facebook because flickr doesn’t seem to be nearly as popular among friends. Check them all out here. Its a public album so even if you don’t have me as a friend (shame on you) or don’t have Facebook you can still view the pictures.

Some Flickr Love

I’ve had a bunch of photos sitting around for a while so figured I would upload them to my Flickr. Only took about 30 seconds to upload 60 photos on high speed compared to 60+ minutes on dial-up haha. Oh the freedom!!!
