Quitting Smoking

Jul 29, 2008 | 1 response | 378 Views

I’ve tried to take the dive a couple of times before but it wasn’t before long that I found myself right back in the smoking game. I think this time will be a lot different though as I’m personally tired of it (going on two years I think?) and its not someone elses decision.

I am currently about three days in and although I’ve have the urges to just say fuck it and continue smoking I’ve been able to push them a side quite easily and find something else to occupy my time.

I don’t regret taking up smoking in the first place but I figured it was about time that I gave up the bad habit and move on. I will keep making little updates with my progress but I can’t really see there being any big news about the whole situation.

Have you ever tried quitting smoking? Post a comment.

So as some of you may know I work at the Island Park in Alexandria. This summer they went ahead with their plans to bring a skatepark to park. After I think five or six years of raising money they have finally raised enough to have a professional team come down from B.C and construct the skatepark you find below. If you live in Eastern Ontario and would like to come sesssion at the park one day then please check out the location of the park here (Google Maps).

Can we not prosecute our own?

Sure, let’s allow the United States to interrogate, torture and hold captive a 16-year-old (now 21) child soldier / Canadian citizen who was captured in Afghanistan and brought to Gitmo. He has not received proper medical attention and is in dir need of help. There has been recent video released showing the interrogationĀ  the then teenage Omar Khadr endured.

Now I’m not very patriotic by any means but it seems rather important that we as Canadians try protect our own citizens whenever they are in harm (especially if that harm is Guantanamo Bay, Cuba). So check out some of these articles, see how you stand on the situation, then maybe tell a few people.

He Met The Walrus

Here is an interview with Jerry Levitan, the boy from the post I made yesterday who interviewed John Lennon in 1969 and talked about peace. Hard to believe he was only 14 when he interviewed him. (CityTV)

I Met The Walrus

An extremely well done video overlaid on top of a 1969 recording of John Lennon. As it has been said before, he was ahead of his time.

In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit, and timeless message.”

Web Design Work

Jul 05, 2008 | No response | 581 Views

I’ve done a little bit of web design work in the past for a few different people and enjoyed doing it quite a bit. In the last little while I’ve been given the opportunity to work on a couple of projects related to getting businesses and organizations up on the web. I decided that since I would be doing this work, there should be a name behind it. JM Media & Design seems to be the name of choice for the time being. I’ve registed JMmedia.ca and should have that up and running in the next few days.

Not to many more details on things right now but I will continue posting updates.

If there are any designers out there who would be interested in designing a logo for me then please feel free to contact me (e-mail, facebook)

Coldplay

A little while back Coldplay released a new album, Viva la Vida, and I finally got my hands on a copy last night. From my first impression (listening the album through once) I’m really impressed with what Chris and the band have done with the new album. I was a little worried that it might not live up to X&Y with the choice not to include Chris on piano but they have more than made up for it with a blend of acoustic and rock with the uniqueness of Coldplay all mixed in. A must have *cough* download *cough*

Here is one of my current favorites, Cemeteries of London.

Dance Like No One Is Watching

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are. After that we’re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.
The truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It’s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza.
He said, “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time…and remember that time waits for no one.
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you’ve had a drink, until you’ve sobered up, until you die, until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy…

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

Thought for the day: “Work like you don’t need money, Love like you’ve never been hurt, And dance like no one’s watching.”
